Rideshare. Float. Engage
BUOY is a carpooling, ridesharing app designed to address the transportation challenges faced by international students at public colleges in the U.S. Limited public transit and the lack of personal vehicles make it difficult for many to access campus, restricting their involvement in university life. BUOY connects students and university staff with cars to those who need rides, fostering a supportive campus community.
A buoy symbolizes presence and stability in shifting waters, much like international students who remain resilient amid constant challenges. These students, navigating the uncertainties of life abroad, find strength in themselves and their community, similar to a buoy supported by the surrounding waves.
This project emphasizes accessible transportation as essential for fostering the on-campus engagement, inclusion and belonging for international students. Beyond mobility, BUOY lifts spirits, embracing stronger connections and support systems that help students feel engaged and welcomed in their college journey.
BUOY is more than a carpooling app, it is a platform for building a system of support and inclusion, strengthening bonds across campus, and helping international students feel at home and engaged.
